Colby Equipment has been family-owned for three generations. The success we have achieved in our nearly 100-year history would not be possible without our valued customers, sales staff and office personnel.

1930
1930

Colby Equipment is established in a small, one-room office in Indianapolis. Brothers John Colby and Royal Colby work selling hot water and steam equipment.

Late 1950s

Colby becomes the first Titus representative in Indiana and is selling fans and air distribution equipment for Titus, Ruskin and New York Blower.

1960s

John Colby’s sons, Kim and Jack, join the family business.

1970s

Colby adds manufacturers like American Cool Air, Acme, Jen-Air and American Air Filter, working to position itself as a leading supplier of HVAC equipment. The company hosts one-day trade shows at a local hotel to showcase the products it represents.

Colby opens another office in Fort Wayne.

1972
1972

Colby expands and moves to a larger facility. With just six employees and no warehouse manager, everyone pitches in when needed.

1975

After the death of John Colby, his sons, Jack and Kim, assume leadership of Colby.

1979
1979

Colby begins representing manufacturer Greenheck.

1980s
1980s

In an expanded facility, Colby increases warehouse offerings—including Greenheck fans and Titus air distribution—and continues to grow sales and support staff.

1985

Kim Colby’s son, Chris, joins the family business.
